Logan Shoals Lake Tahoe Elopement - Dawn & Jon

A Lake Tahoe Elopement, Planned in Two Weeks

Dawn and Jon got married at Logan Shoals Vista Point on May 16th, and the whole thing came together in about two weeks.

They reached out without a venue, without an officiant, without a marriage license, and without a single location picked out. Vegas had been on the table — fast, simple, no planning required. But they wanted Lake Tahoe instead. So we built the day from scratch, fast: where to stay, who could officiate on short notice, how and where to get their marriage license, hair and makeup, and which spots around the lake would actually work for a ceremony and portraits in mid-May.

I called on Copper Bridal Studio (instagram.com/copperbridalstudio), one of my trusted vendors, for hair and makeup — and like everything else about this day, they came through on short notice without missing a beat. Thomas Honesco (instagram.com/thomashonesco) officiated, stepping in on the same tight timeline and bringing exactly the warmth the day called for.

Why the Timeline Mattered

Jon was about to start cancer treatment. He and Dawn wanted to get married while he still had the energy to fully be in the day — not rushed out of fear, just clear-eyed about what mattered and unwilling to wait for a date that might not come with the same ease. That's not a small thing to plan around, and it's not something either of them treated as a tragedy. They treated it as a reason to celebrate now, on their own terms, exactly the way they wanted to.

The Day at Logan Shoals

Logan Shoals Vista Point sits above the lake on the Nevada side, with sweeping views down to the water and the mountains rising up behind it. The weather wasn't perfect — a little rain came through during the day — but nothing that got in the way of anything. If anything, it gave the light a softness that a clear sky wouldn't have.

What I'll remember most about Dawn and Jon isn't the location, though. It's how easy they were to be around. Some couples need managing on their wedding day — nerves, timing pressure, a hundred small decisions. Dawn and Jon were just genuinely sweet, kind, easygoing people who were there to marry each other and enjoy the day. My job mostly amounted to staying out of their way and making sure the practical pieces — the officiant, the license, the timeline — were already handled before they even arrived.

What Their Day Looked Like

•         Planning window: Two weeks from first contact to wedding day

•         Ceremony: Logan Shoals Vista Point, Lake Tahoe's Nevada shore

•         Weather: Light rain, otherwise clear

•         Portraits: Additional locations around the lake following the ceremony

Some elopements take a year of planning. Dawn and Jon's took two weeks, because that was the timeline that mattered to them — and it came together exactly the way it needed to.
